Pittsburgh in the fall is one of the most anticipated times of the year. From the gorgeous change in scenery to cooler, more enjoyable temperatures, it's no surprise why locals look forward to this season all year long.
With the season change comes notable change elsewhere, too; the clothing becomes warmer and cozier, the restaurants roll out their autumn specials and, as most people would also say, "It's pumpkin spice season!" This is all well and good if you actually like pumpkin spice, but what about those of us who prefer something outside of the pumpkin spice box? Thankfully, I've got you covered and have found a few favorites around the city.
Pumpkin Pie Latte
Where to get it: Rock n Joe
This sweet latte will fulfill all of your pumpkin spice dreams. Enjoy your latte with a slice of their pumpkin bread or pumpkin muffin to really kickoff the fall season!
Salted Caramel Espresso
Where to get it: Everyday Café
A drink with a strong kick. The sweetness of caramel and a hint of saltiness give this drink a sweet and salty taste that's full of flavor.
Café con miel
Where to get it: Arriviste Coffee Bar
For those who like a less traditional fall drink, try the Café con meil. Blended Espresso, steamed milk and spiced local Bedillion honey will give you all the fall feels without all of the fall flavors.
Ancho Mocha
Where to get it: Caffe d'Amore
For those chilly fall mornings you might need a little chili to fully wake up! (See what we did there?) The warmth of the ancho mixed with the sweetness of the chocolate makes this a unique drink worth trying. Honorable mention: Give their maple latte a try!
Horchata with Tapioca Pearls
Where to get it: HLane Dry Goods & Coffee
Enjoy a local twist on Horchata, a sweet rice-based drink with ground nuts or spices. HLane recommends ordering the drink hot with traditional tapioca pearls for the perfect fall treat.
Chai Tea Latte
Where to get it: Allegheny Coffee & Tea Exchange
If coffee isn't your favorite, look no further. Allegheny Coffee & Tea Exchange has a Chai Tea Latte that has been described as "fall in a cup." Think about a typical latte, but with all the chai spices and none of the coffee flavor.
Ginger Tumeric Latte
Where to get it: Adda Coffee House
Both ginger and turmeric are known to have anti-inflammatory properties, so this warm, soothing and delicious latte is also really good for you.
While the drinks above are all great for a midday pick-me-up, if you're in the market for something a little *stronger,* here are a few options for those of us who have passed our 21st birthdays.
Apple Cider Margarita
Where to get it: Mad Mex
What's not to like about a margarita? Let alone a margarita with a crisp apple flavoring in a caramel-rimmed glass? Johnny Appleseed would be proud.
Hard Apple Cider
Where to get it: Arsenal Cider
If you've been to Arsenal, you know that cider is the name of its game. With a menu so extensive, it's hard to pick a favorite, but for me Honeycrisp Apple rates highly! Stop in today and try them all!
