Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum originally was dedicated to Allegheny County's 25,000 Civil War veterans. Today, the contributions of African Americans in the military are displayed throughout the museum's exhibits covering all wars. The Slave to Soldier exhibit examines the American enslavement of Africans from the 17th century through the United States Reconstruction period, with an emphasis on former slaves who joined the Union Army during America's Civil War to fight for freedom.

Soldiers & Sailors, built in 1910, is the largest memorial building in the United States that honors America’s fighting personnel from all American Conflicts.
