The National Aviary reopens to the public July 1, 2020. Timed entry tickets are required and are now available for purchase at https://shop.aviary.org. With enhanced safety and immersive experiences, the National Aviary is excited to welcome you back!
The only of its kind, the National Aviary is home to more than 500 birds from around the world, many of them threatened or endangered in the wild.
Large walk-through habitats, including the newly renovated Grasslands, allow for close interactions between visitors and free-flying birds. New immersive experiences offer opportunities to meet species rarely found in zoos up-close. Visitors can watch flamingos frolic; witness illusive owls spread their wings; and hang out with a sloth.
Penguin Point, an open-air habitat that is home to a colony of playful penguins, affords close-up views of the penguins swimming, diving and basking in the sun.
