A Presentation by Dr. Walt Powell
Please join us for a special presentation by distinguished historian, curator, and co-founder of the Braddock Road Preservation Association.
Dr. Powell will explore the events of July 9-13th 1755 through the rich and varied array of over 4,000 artifacts gathered over 50 years by Donald R. Hinks and his family and recently donated by the Braddock Road Preservation Association to Braddock’s Battlefield History Center. A part of the Donald R. Hinks Collection is now on display at the BBHC.
In 1989, Dr. Powell co- founded with Donald R. Hinks the Braddock Road Preservation Association (BRPA), establishing at the same time an annual French and Indian War Seminar at the Jumonville Church and Conference Center—site of Colonel Thomas Dunbar’s Camp in July 1755. There, Don Hinks also served as Curator of his collection of more than 4,000 Braddock Road artifacts, the largest in the United States, later purchased by the BRPA and recently gifted to the BBHC. The late Robert T. Messner, founder of the BBHC, was an active member and contributor of the BRPA, and credited it with inspiring him to establish Braddock’s Battlefield History Center.
