Escape the cold and get your 18th-century history
fix! Come see the Fort Ligonier Museum’s brand new exhibits, which debuted on
October 12, the anniversary of the 1758 battle of Loyalhanna, which made Pittsburgh
possible! See the six new galleries that tell the story of Fort Ligonier like
never-before from the Seven Years’ War era to modern archaeology and
reconstruction efforts that led to the site that visitors enjoy today.
The new exhibits present the history of Fort Ligonier in a
fresh, compelling way, using a “reverse timeline” approach that takes visitors
from the present day back in time to the fort’s founding. Many interesting and priceless
artifacts from Fort Ligonier’s world-renowned collections are on display to
present tangible links to the past.
See the new Forbes Road exhibit and travel the route built
across Pennsylvania by British troops from the 1758 Forbes Campaign. Explore
Fort Ligonier’s 18th-century life and events through amazing
archaeological collections and a hands-on area for children. Meet a Young
George Washington in the new Washington Gallery and ponder his shift form
English subject to leader of the fight for American independence, as
exemplified by the Washington-Lafayette pistols, a national treasure.
