For nearly 30 years, Rivers of Steel has worked to tell the stories of southwestern Pennsylvania through its programs and attractions, amplifying this region’s legacy and enabling locals and tourists alike to connect the past with the present and gain a greater appreciation of Pittsburgh’s role in American history.

Rivers of Steel’s attractions include three National Historic Landmarks, including the Carrie Blast Furnaces in Swissvale and Rankin, The Bost Building in Homestead, and the W.A. Young & Sons Foundry and Machine Shop in Rices Landing, in addition to the historic Pump House in Munhall - site of the 1892 Battle of Homestead, and the Explorer riverboat, which offers heritage sightseeing tours on the water.

Rivers of Steel also manages the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area – an eight county region of communities linked by a shared cultural and industrial heritage. Through this program, Rivers of Steel supports heritage conservation, heritage tourism and outdoor recreation as a means to foster economic development and enhance cultural engagement throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.

Visit riversofsteel.com to learn more about tours of the Carrie Blast Furnaces, excursions on the Explorer riverboat, exhibitions at the Bost Building, and dynamic programs for all ages that foster transformative experiences.
