The only of its kind, the National Aviary is home to more than 500 birds from around the world, many of them threatened or endangered in the wild.

Large walk-through habitats, including the newly renovated Grasslands, allow for close interactions between visitors and free-flying birds. Immersive experiences offer opportunities to meet species rarely found in zoos up-close. Visitors can watch flamingos frolic; witness illusive owls spread their wings; and hang out with a sloth.

Penguin Point, an open-air habitat that is home to a colony of playful penguins, affords close-up views of the penguins swimming, diving and basking in the sun.

Hours: M, W-Su, 10-5; Closed Tuesdays and Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Open New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
