Your Day in the Strip District: A 24-Hour Itinerary
This itinerary is designed for a perfect day exploring one of Pittsburgh’s busiest neighborhoods. It’s a walkable plan that combines iconic sights, local food, and unique experiences.
Morning: Breakfast Bites
Diner Vibes: If there’s one thing the Strip has plenty of, it’s diners. Going to this neighborhood bright and early for a home cooked meal is an excursion that’s worth treating yourself to. Stop at Pamela’s, DeLuca’s, or Kelly O’s for a breakfast that will start your day right.
Bite-Size Breakfast: If you don’t feel like eating a whole breakfast, there are several coffee shops throughout the Strip District that can kickstart your day. La Prima Espresso Company is a quaint coffee shop that roasts over 20 coffee and espresso blends, including four Italian style espresso blends. The Roaming Bean serves as a home base for one of Pittsburgh’s beloved coffee vans that travels throughout the city. Allegheny Coffee and Tea Exchange is a great place to expand your horizons, as you can mix and match dozens of flavors for your dream drink.

Lunch: Take It To-Go
The Strip District is a mile-long stretch of road right along the Allegheny River, so it’s a perfect place to grab a bite outdoors.
On The Go: The Strip is a hub for eateries where you can take your meal on the go. Places like Pennsylvania Macaroni Company and Wholey’s have everything you need to stock up for a picnic for lunch. And if you feel like you just want a quick snack, you can head to Pittsburgh Popcorn Company to tide you over. Either way, round out your personal food pyramid with a trip to Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop, as a sweet treat to yourself.
Riverfront Views: Once you have your lunch, you’ll want to head to the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and stake out a spot along the Allegheny River to eat. Not only will it be an ideal time to catch some sunshine, it will also give you some time to catch your breath after an already busy start to your Strip District adventure.

Afternoon: Step Into the History Books
After you've taken in the Strip's great outdoors, you'll be venturing inside next.
Head to Heinz: The Senator John Heinz History Center is a history museum located around where Downtown meets the Strip, and only a few short blocks from an exit to the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. The Heinz History Center is Pennsylvania’s largest history museum where you can see Smithsonian artifacts daily throughout six floors of engaging exhibitions, perfect for visitors of all ages. From homages to Mr. Roger's Neighborhood to the Franco Harris Sports Museum, there's something for every niche and interest at the History Center. Don't forget to stamp your passes at each exit on the stairwell - if you get every stamp and turn it in at the end of your visit, you'll go home with a pickle pin!
Did you know? The Heinz History Center was named the top history museum in the country in USA Today's 10Best polls for 2026, making it the third time in a row the museum has brought home first place!

Evening: Shopping Through the Strip
The Strip District is a handcrafted wonderland, with clothing stores mixed with mom and pop shops and storefronts that have been around for generations. Here, you'll be greeted like a longtime neighbor, swept off your feet by makers, and pulled every which way by different markets and vendors that look like they came right out of the movies.
Stroll Along the Terminal: Along the iconic Smallman Street, one of Pittsburgh's newest shopping malls sits proudly, ready to give you whatever you need and whatever you didn't know you needed. The Terminal is expansive five-block-long former produce terminal at the heart of the Strip District neighborhood, is home to a robust calendar of year-round events and a curated collection of retailers, experiences and dining options. Home to a bookstore, mini golf, food, and more, this is a must-stop while you're in the Strip. Bonus points if you catch one of their seasonal markets!
Peruse Penn Avenue : Penn Avenue is another of the Strip District's most recognizable streets, with vendors of all sorts lined up from morning to night. From clothing stores to food stands, wine and coffee samples, and everything in between, simply walking down Penn Avenue will book your evening as you're pulled in all directions by tons of different shops.
Check It Out: If you're looking for some sports merch, the Strip District has you covered. Stop by one of several shops to get gear for the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, Riverhounds, and Riveters. The Strip District is alive with Pittsburgh sports pride, especially bright and early on football Sundays.

Dinner: Flavor From Around the World
The Strip District boasts a variety of different cuisines fit for even the pickiest of eaters.
Pittsburgh's First Asian Food Hall: If you're not quite sure what you're feeling for dinner, head to Novo Asian Food Hall in The Terminal. From there, you can pick from an array of different Asian cuisines, from Korean to Vietnamese to Japanese to Chinese.
Something More Seated: Across the street from The Terminal is BALVANERA, a casual Argentine eatery dishing up steaks, seafood and other traditional dishes plus beer, wine and cocktails. And on the other side of the pond, DiAnoia's Eatery is a family-owned and operated Italian restaurant that specializes in homemade pasta, pastries, bread, sandwiches, and more.
Check It Out: Still not sure what to get? Book a tour with 'Burgh Bits and Bites, a food tasting adventure and historic walking tour of Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Enjoy a historic narrative of the area along with a sampling of cuisine from some of Pittsburgh's best small local businesses and eateries.

Late Night: Keep It Lowkey
Want to Know a Secret?: The Strip District is home to one of Pittsburgh's most beloved hidden gems: Cellars Speakeasy. Located underground, this restaurant invites you into an exclusive dining experience where the charm of the 1920s meets modern culinary artistry. It even has a historic aspect, with a secret tunnel that used to connect to a distillery during the Prohibition Era.
Craving a Craft Cocktail: Speaking of, that distillery is just across the street from Cellars. Wigle Whiskey distills award winning craft spirits in the heart of Pittsburgh using local grains hand milled and copper pot distilled, and is proud to be a 2x James Beard nominated distillery. Be sure to go on a distillery tour while you're in town too; Wigle's history is fascinating.
Craving a Cold Beer: If cocktails aren't you're thing. Coop De Ville is just a short walk away from Wigle and Cellars. Feed your inner child with pinball in this massive space that makes it easy to laugh the night away. It also has outdoor seating for when the weather gets nice.
