Unique Date Nights in Pittsburgh

Celebrate the one you love with these Only in Pittsburgh date night ideas!

If you're like me, Pittsburgh is your one true love. With so many fun and romantic things to do in the city, Valentine's Day is a great excuse to get out and try something new! Whether you're looking to shake things up or keep it simple, celebrating with friends or a significant other, there are plenty of ways to make it a lovely day.

Hands-On Activities

Get creative, make something to remember or just have some fun being active:

  • Still need to shop for Valentine's Gifts? Skip the box of chocolates and flowers and get your someone special something high quality, local and handmade at I Made It! Market Feb. 4 at The Block Northway.
  • Threadbare Cider has two unique events for the holiday! Take their Cookie Frosting class Feb. 9 and go home artfully made cookies, made by you, and test your romcom knowledge at their Romantic Comedy trivia night Feb. 15!
  • Take a class at the Pittsburgh Glass Center for a one-of-a-kind, hands-on experience with some truly talented artisans. For Valentine's Day, try Make-It Now Valentines Feb. 10 and make a heart-shaped pendant for someone you love, or have date night at their new Undefined exhibit featuring the finalists of Netflix's Blown Away.
  • Be a Paint Monkey! Fun for private parties, groups or a romantic evening, this class makes it easy to be an artist! Guests are welcome to bring wine, beer and snacks.
  • Love friendly competition with your date? Head to Ace Axe Throwing (Homestead) or Lumberjaxes (Millvale, Mt. Lebo, Cranberry) and let your axe satisfyingly slam into wooden targets. Coaches help train you before your session to make this activity fun for all skill levels.
  • Forge your own chainmail keychain and tap into your inner Viking with Carnegie Science Center's 21+ Night. Learn about blacksmithing, watch VIKINGS: Warriors of the North Sea and more.
  • Ice skate with your loved one under the stars on Valentine's Day at Schenley Park Skating Rink for their Valentines on Ice event, which is 18+ and goes from 7-9 p.m.

Sit Back and Relax

Enjoy a special experience while someone else does the work with one of these mesmerizing activities.

  • Health, wellness and peace of mind are essential at Evolve Wellness Spa in Shadyside. Treat yourself and your partner to a luxurious and rejuvenating couple's massage, yoga, aromatherapy or a skin treatment for a day of pure relaxation.
  • Soldiers & Sailors will do live readings of original love letters from the museum's collection written by men and women separated by conflict for their I'll Be Seeing You event Feb. 17. The night also includes a Valentine's Day themed exhibit, strolling violinist, charcuterie, champagne and desserts.
  • If beer and a movie is more your speed, check out the adjoined Row House Cinema and Bierport in Lawrenceville. Pick up some craft brews (they'll even chill the beers for you!) and take them over to see a film from the week's lineup.

Soak in the City

It's always a great time to embrace Pittsburgh's beautiful skyline, but especially with your special someone by your side.

  • Experience a unique dining experience like no other from atop Mount Washington at Monterey Bay Fish Grotto, featuring impeccable views and mouthwatering seafood. Insider Tip: Take the Duquesne Incline up and enjoy the views on your walk over to Shiloh St. for more great dining options like Coughlin's Law and Gordo's Tacos (Valentine's Day is, of course, on Taco Tuesday this year).
  • Put on your dancing shoes and bring your sweetheart (and their appetite) to an enchanting evening of Valentine's cruises care of Gateway Clipper. Set the mood on the water with options for a romantic dinner cruise on Feb. 11 and 14.
  • Combine date night with international cuisine, history and a relaxed city hike with a Burgh Bits and Bites tour. Strip District food tours are available Feb. 10 and 13 with additional Brookline and Lawrenceville tours Feb. 11.
