What to Do
Mornings
Enjoy brunch at Square Café in Regent Square. It's a quirky little place with a unique menu. They are famous for their crepes and pancakes but everything on the menu is good, including the Beach Bum smoothie. Another great option is breakfast at Pamela’s Diner in the bustling Strip District. It has a retro vibe and the walls are lined with old black and white photos. The hotcakes are huge and the crepes are wonderful. Cash only!
Walk off breakfast take by strolling through “The Strip”, as locals call it. This open-air marketplace has lots of shops, boutiques, coffee shops and stores. Afterwards, head to the North Shore, located across the river from Downtown. Drive over any of the three yellow “sister bridges” – the Andy Warhol, the Rachel Carson and the Roberto Clemente. Take in some modern art at the Mattress Factory, hailed as the best facility for installation art in the United States. The museum is an experimental lab featuring site-specific installations created by artists in residence from around the world.
Another quirky museum in the North Side is Bicycle Heaven Museum, tucked away in an industrial park along the edges of the Ohio River. There’s a wonderful, eclectic collection of 6,000 bicycles each with their own story - it’s like stepping into a time capsule. There’s an extensive collection of memorabilia and theme bikes that includes The Beatles, Elvis Presley and more. There is plenty of free parking out front and no admission charge.
Afternoons
If gourmet tacos and fancy margaritas are your thing, Condado Tacos is our recommendation because you’ll get a lot of food for your dollar. The street-art styled restaurant features work by local artists. Their margaritas go perfectly with any of their custom tacos and homemade tortilla chips. Try the blood orange flavor! It’s not a trip to Pittsburgh without a stop at Primanti Bros. in the Strip District. They serve up stacked sandwiches topped with French fries and coleslaw, and you won't leave hungry!
While you're in the strip, take some time for a distillery tour at Wigle Whiskey. This nationally regarded distillery produces whiskeys, gin, rum, absinthe and vodka. You'll get to sample their products, enjoy a craft cocktail, and you'll also learn all about Pittsburgh's role in the Whiskey Rebellion!
Create your own unique candle at Candle Lab in Lawrenceville. Choose from more than 110 fragrances to create your custom candle or home fragrance product. It’s BYOB so you can take along some wine or beer. Reservations are required for groups of five or more. Check out Kennywood, one of the best traditional amusement parks in the nation!
If you're still looking for more, Pittsburgh has a host of free museums and attractions, pick a few and check them out!
Evening
Make sure to take skyline selfies on Mt. Washington while you're in Pittsburgh! Ride the Duquesne Incline cable car to the top for spectacular views of the city, especially at night. Note: Incline requires exact change ($5/roundtrip). If Instagram is your thing, check out our Instagram-Worthy Spots blog for more selfie spots.
If your gal pals are foodies or have different dietary needs, Federal Galley is an interesting food hall on the North Shore featuring four chefs and a stellar bar, and the kitchen is open till 10 pm on weekends. There are so many options that you'll be sure to find something that works for everyone.
Catch a baseball game at PNC Park, one of best ballparks in America, and home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. After the game stop for some drinks at Olive Or Twist where there is live music Thursday-Sunday nights.
