Just Films is a collaboration of four organizations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania committed to women, girls, gender equity, and social justice: the Chatham University Women’s Institute, New Voices Pittsburgh, the Women and Girls Foundation, and the Women’s Law Project. We have chosen ten documentaries for this film series covering a wide range of issues – from immigration to human trafficking, trans families, paid leave, and more – designed to educate, inspire, challenge, and move you to action. Many of these films were made by women, and most will be showing in Pittsburgh for the first time. What remains of a woman’s right to choose? U.S. reproductive health clinics are fighting to remain open. Since 2010, 288 laws regulating abortion providers have been passed by state legislatures. In total, 44 states and the District of Columbia have measures subjecting abortion providers to legal restrictions not imposed on other medical professionals. Unable to comply with these far-reaching and medically unnecessary laws, clinics have taken their fight to the courts. The U.S. Supreme Court’s groundbreaking 2016 ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt gives hope that some of these restrictive state laws can be challenged. Trapped follows clinic workers and lawyers who are on the front lines of the battle to keep abortion safe and legal for millions of American women.
