Forge On to Pittsburgh: The Future Awaits in 2028!
[We are thrilled to welcome the incredible energy of the Shriners International Imperial Session to our city in 2028.] Pittsburgh is a city built for gathering, celebrating, and forging unforgettable memories together.
In Pittsburgh, "Forge On" isn't just a nod to our history—it's a mindset. It means pushing boundaries, building lifelong connections, and constantly moving forward. Our city has transformed into one of America's most vibrant, high-energy hubs for culture, nightlife, and entertainment.
Welcome to the Steel City! Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning, navigating Pittsburgh is simpler than you might think. From the moment you land to your first stroll through the Golden Triangle, here is what you need to know.
You will arrive at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), which was designed to reflect the rolling hills and glass-and-steel heritage of our region while streamlining the arrival process.
Getting to Downtown, the airport is approximately 20 miles west of Downtown.
Driving into Pittsburgh offers one of the best "reveal" views in the country, but the downtown grid requires a little strategy.
Pro Tip: Downtown is a "walker's paradise," and our free transit options mean you won't need your car until it's time to head home.
Spring in Pittsburgh brings blooming green spaces and crisp river breezes, making flexible layers your best friend.
Packing Basics: Pack breathable, medium-weight layers like cardigans, light sweaters, or quarter-zips that build easily over short-sleeve or long-sleeve shirts as temperatures shift throughout the day.
Outerwear: A lightweight, waterproof rain jacket or trench coat is essential for sudden spring showers.
Footwear: Comfortable, water-resistant walking shoes or supportive sneakers are a must for exploring historic neighborhoods like the Strip District or walking along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail as the city blooms.
Summer offers long, sun-filled days perfect for exploring the riverfronts, though indoor venues keep things comfortably cool.
Packing Basics: Lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing (cotton or linen tees, blouses, and shorts or trousers) keeps you comfortable outdoors. Pack a light blazer, cardigan, or denim jacket specifically for air-conditioned venue spaces.
Outerwear & Sun Care: Bring sunglasses, broad-spectrum sunscreen, and a compact travel umbrella for brief afternoon thunderstorms.
Footwear: Breathable walking shoes or supportive sandals with good tread work best for navigating inclined city streets, catching a baseball game, or riding the Duquesne Incline up Mount Washington.
Autumn showcases the region at its most picturesque, with crisp air, vibrant foliage, and ideal walking weather.
Packing Basics: Pack tailored long-sleeve shirts, cozy knits, tailored trousers, and versatile scarves that move seamlessly from business settings to casual dinners.
Outerwear: A mid-weight jacket, leather coat, or fleece liner provides the right amount of warmth for crisp mornings and cooler riverfront evenings.
Footwear: Supportive leather sneakers or flat ankle boots with good traction allow you to comfortably stroll through leaf-lined parks, explore local shopping districts, or walk nearby riverfront trails.
Winter brings a cozy, festive energy to the city streets, calling for warm layers and solid winter footwear.
Packing Basics: Pack thermal base layers, heavy knitwear, fleece-lined trousers or tights, and cold-weather accessories (beanie, thick gloves, and a warm scarf).
Outerwear: An insulated parka or heavy wool coat that blocks wind is necessary for navigating outdoor city blocks.
Footwear: Insulated, waterproof boots or sturdy shoes with slip-resistant rubber soles are critical for navigating icy sidewalks and hilly terrain when stepping out to enjoy winter festivities.
