The Pick is In for a Historic Spring: Pittsburgh Marks 100 Days Until the 2026 NFL Draft
Citywide preparations set the stage for a one-of-a-kind fan experience
PITTSBURGH (Jan. 13, 2026) – With 100 days to go until the 2026 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh is transforming into a city ready to welcome the world. From vibrant streetscapes and enhanced public spaces Downtown to immersive fan experiences under a new “PicksBURGH” activation, preparations are accelerating for what will be the largest event in Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania history.
“As Governor of Pennsylvania, I was proud to make the case for Pittsburgh to host the 2026 NFL Draft, and in 100 days, I am excited to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors to the birthplace of professional football and home of the legendary Pittsburgh Steelers,” said Governor Josh Shapiro. “Pittsburgh is a dynamic city that’s on the rise, and my Administration has made historic investments in its Downtown alongside the county, the city, and our nonprofit and private sector partners to ensure this is the best NFL Draft in history. With all eyes on Pennsylvania during America’s 250th birthday in 2026, the Commonwealth is ready and excited to host this historic draft and show the country what Pennsylvania is all about.”
Downtown Revitalization: Preparing Pittsburgh for the World
In advance of Draft Week, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership has been implementing significant upgrades to ensure Downtown is welcoming, vibrant and accessible. Streetscape improvements, enhanced public spaces and pedestrian-focused infrastructure projects are already underway, reflecting the city’s long-term commitment to a thriving core. Additional upgrades are also happening at Point State Park – ensuring one of the city’s most iconic public spaces is ready to welcome fans and provide long-term improvements for residents alike.
“Thanks to Governor Shapiro’s investment and the incredible collaboration across our City, County, and private-sector partners, you can feel Downtown’s momentum everywhere you look,” said Jeremy Waldrup, President & CEO of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. “From the transformation of Market Square to the creation of Arts Landing, we’re not just getting ready for Draft Week — we’re accelerating a year-round strategy to bring more people Downtown, more often. April will put Pittsburgh on a global stage, but the real win is making sure these improvements continue to serve residents, businesses, and visitors long after the final pick is made.
As 500,000 to 700,000 fans arrive from across the country, the economic and cultural impact of the Draft is expected to extend far beyond the city’s core.
“The NFL Draft gives us the chance to put the full strength of Allegheny County on display — from our brand-new world-class airport terminal and diverse line-up of small businesses to our arts, culture, and unmatched sports tradition,” said County Executive Sara Innamorato. “As hundreds of thousands of fans arrive, the energy will extend far beyond Downtown and the North Shore, filling hotels, restaurants, and main streets across the region. This is about welcoming the world and making sure the benefits are felt across the region.”
"It's time to tell the new Pittsburgh story about our future, growth, culture, innovation and world leading technology," said Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O'Connor. "This is a chance to showcase our city because this isn't just a celebration of football, this is a celebration of Pittsburgh. We can't wait for hundreds of thousands of visitors and 50 million viewers across the globe to see why we love our city."
Pittsburgh Becomes “PicksBURGH”: A Local Brand Built to Champion Local Picks
As Draft Week approaches, the city will temporarily transform from Pittsburgh to “PicksBURGH,” a local activation platform designed to celebrate the people, places and businesses that together will forge an unforgettable Draft experience for fans.
Developed to complement the official NFL Draft brand, “PicksBURGH” will serve as a unifying banner across the city – from Downtown to the North Shore and even beyond the Draft footprint – highlighting “local picks” including neighborhoods events, restaurants, retailers and fan activations happening across the region throughout Draft Week.
Through signage, partner promotions and on-the-ground activations, “PicksBURGH” will elevate experiences happening beyond the official NFL footprint and schedule, ensuring Draft excitement is felt across the region and driving meaningful economic impact for local businesses.
PicksBURGH Draft Day 5K Brings Fans into the Action
As part of the growing lineup of “PicksBURGH” activations, P3R will host a PicksBURGH Draft Day 5K, a one-time race experience taking place Saturday, April 25, the final day of the NFL Draft.
The race invites local residents and visiting fans alike to run or walk through the North Shore and Downtown, crossing iconic bridges and taking in skyline views while immersed in the energy of one of the sporting events. The course will finish in the heart of Draft Day action.
“From our bridges to our streets, Pittsburgh comes alive when we celebrate together,” said Troy Schooley, CEO of P3R. “The PicksBURGH Draft Day 5K gives fans a chance to feel the Draft’s energy firsthand—combining the pride, passion and grit that define Pittsburgh with an unforgettable race-day experience.”
After crossing the finish line, the participants will be able to explore fan-focused activities, interactive exhibits, and special NFL Draft activations throughout the area. Each registration will receive an exclusive PicksBURGH Draft Day 5K shirt and finisher medal, inspired by the region’s deep sports tradition and 2026 NFL Draft brand.
The event is made possible through the support of local corporate partners — including PNC Foundation, U.S. Steel, PPG Foundation, Highmark, MSA Safety, First National Bank, Federated, and Peoples Gas.
