Publication highlights 'Only in Pittsburgh' experiences
PITTSBURGH – VisitPITTSBURGH unveiled the 2017 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh at a Launch Party held at the Omni William Penn Hotel, to more than 140 guests. The guide's striking cover features the city skyline from the North Shore which was shot by Pittsburgh photographer J.P. Diroll.
Hot off the press, the 146-page, 2017 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh highlights exhibitions, restaurants, museums, attractions, parks, shops and so much more that can only be done, seen or found in the city of Pittsburgh.
"We know that people are willing to visit a destination only when they can find unique experiences," said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "The 2017 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh highlights many things that can only be found in Pittsburgh. These one-of-a-kind experiences create the stories we love to tell about our region."
In addition to listing scores of events, free things to see and do, and a plethora of ways to explore the city, the guide features more than 30 "Only in Pittsburgh" highlights that make Pittsburgh so very unique. Some of the highlights include:
In addition to being used as a planning guide for tourists – nearly 650 partner organizations are included – the Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh serves as a tool to help VisitPITTSBURGH’s convention sales team "sell the city" to meeting planners who are considering booking an event, convention or meeting in the city. It's also provided to travel writers interested in writing Pittsburgh-focused articles.
A total of 100,000 guides are printed and distributed at VisitPITTSBURGH welcome centers, universities, corporations, meeting planners and potential tourists who inquire via 1-877-LOVE PGH. A digital version of the guide is also available for download at visitpittsburgh.com.
In addition, VisitPITTSBURGH developed the Official Visitors Guide in a mobile version accessible via PghVisitorsGuide.com. The mobile guide is a quick, easy-to-navigate way to enjoy a condensed version of the guide for visitors on the go. The mobile guide highlights select sections of the printed publication.
Participants at the Launch Party event were involved in the production of the publication by either providing content or creative. In addition to a selection of appetizers, guests enjoyed Wigle Whiskey's signature cocktail – a Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned, another Pittsburgh original.

Or, visitors may pick up a copy at the WELCOME Pittsburgh Information Center and Gift Shop in Fifth Avenue Place, downtown Pittsburgh; VisitPITTSBURGH Welcome Centers at the Pittsburgh International Airport; Senator John Heinz History Center in the Strip District; Duquesne Incline on Mt. Washington; Fort Pitt Museum and South Side Chamber of Commerce. Golden Triangle Bike Rental, downtown, and Kayak Pittsburgh (open seasonally) on the North Shore will also be stocked with guides beginning this spring.
Local design firm ocreations, LLC., designed the printed book and mobile version, while RR Donnelley Printing handled the printing.
