VisitPITTSBURGH’s Reveals its 2017 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh

Publication highlights 'Only in Pittsburgh' experiences

PITTSBURGH – VisitPITTSBURGH unveiled the 2017 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh at a Launch Party held at the Omni William Penn Hotel, to more than 140 guests. The guide's striking cover features the city skyline from the North Shore which was shot by Pittsburgh photographer J.P. Diroll.

Hot off the press, the 146-page, 2017 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh highlights exhibitions, restaurants, museums, attractions, parks, shops and so much more that can only be done, seen or found in the city of Pittsburgh.

"We know that people are willing to visit a destination only when they can find unique experiences," said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "The 2017 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh highlights many things that can only be found in Pittsburgh. These one-of-a-kind experiences create the stories we love to tell about our region."

In addition to listing scores of events, free things to see and do, and a plethora of ways to explore the city, the guide features more than 30 "Only in Pittsburgh" highlights that make Pittsburgh so very unique. Some of the highlights include:

  • The cutting-edge Frick Environmental Center is featured as a "living laboratory" and a complement to historic Frick Park.
  • The Andy Warhol Museum, the global keeper of Andy Warhol's legacy, is one of the most comprehensive museums for a single artist in the world. There is also an art project – "Figments: Conservations with Andy" – that live-streams Warhol’s grave at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.
  • Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is touted as the nation's largest vintage race event and the only one staged on city streets.
  • The walls and ceiling of St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church are decorated with elaborate paintings by artists Maxo Vanca to tell the story of the Croatian peasants who came to seek a better life in Pittsburgh.

In addition to being used as a planning guide for tourists – nearly 650 partner organizations are included – the Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh serves as a tool to help VisitPITTSBURGH’s convention sales team "sell the city" to meeting planners who are considering booking an event, convention or meeting in the city. It's also provided to travel writers interested in writing Pittsburgh-focused articles.

A total of 100,000 guides are printed and distributed at VisitPITTSBURGH welcome centers, universities, corporations, meeting planners and potential tourists who inquire via 1-877-LOVE PGH. A digital version of the guide is also available for download at visitpittsburgh.com.

The mobile guide is a quick, easy-to-navigate way to enjoy a condensed version of the guide for visitors on the go. The mobile guide highlights select sections of the printed publication.

Participants at the Launch Party event were involved in the production of the publication by either providing content or creative. In addition to a selection of appetizers, guests enjoyed Wigle Whiskey's signature cocktail – a Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned, another Pittsburgh original.
