VisitPITTSBURGH not only keeps the local cultural community healthy, but is just as mindful of the wellness of the tourism agency's staff.
PITTSBURGH- VisitPITTSBURGH, the official tourism promotion agency for Allegheny County, was recognized by the Pittsburgh Business Times as one of Pittsburgh's 2017 Healthiest Employers. The award was given by Healthiest Employers, a privately-held technology and data research company.
The Healthiest Employers award program honors organizations that are successful in creating healthy environments in the workplace and measures wellness through an online assessment tool with six key categories.
"There are well-documented business and productivity reasons to support a wellness program in the workplace," says Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "But the best reason is because it is the right thing to do for our employees."
2017 marks the tenth year of VisitPITTSBURGH's wellness initiative, coined Celebrate and Be Zen in Ten. Wellness and employee well-being is a year-round commitment. The Be Zen in Ten initiative encourages employees and their spouses/domestic partners to gain health awareness through health risk assessment, preventive exams and health screening and to strive to be healthy and active. Be Zen in Ten rewards employees for healthy decision making, including doctor visits for preventative exams and participating in wellness programs such as 10,000 Steps, walking/running the Pittsburgh Great Race, on-site biometric screening and flu vaccination clinic.
"Employee well-being has become the new measure of success. This impact is measured in terms of lower health care costs, increased productivity, better work-life balance and enhanced employee engagement," says Mary Grasha Houpt, VisitPITTSBURGH's vice president of human resources. "A new incentive to spur participation in our wellness program involves money savings. Employees who meet all wellness requirements, including participation in biometric screenings, will earn a discount on their 2017-2018 insurance premiums, which is a terrific motivation to improve overall health," said Ms. Grasha Houpt.
Eighty-five percent of the staff at VisitPITTSBURGH participated in the Be Zen in Ten program and 75 percent earned a 2017-2018 premium discount. This is the seventh year VisitPITTSBURGH has won this award.
The awards program was held Thursday, June 8 at the Westin Convention Center Hotel.
As the official tourism promotion agency for Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, VisitPITTSBURGH is dedicated to generating conventions, trade show and leisure travel business for the Pittsburgh region.
