PITTSBURGH – This week, VisitPITTSBURGH is hosting the International Food and Wine Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) for a first-ever "Food! Glorious Food! Libation!" press tour. Eleven writers from France, Canada and the United States will convene in Pittsburgh, September 13-16, to experience the city's hot culinary scene and see what all the buzz is about.
"We are excited to host the International Food and Wine Travel Writers Association and to show them why Pittsburgh has become a major travel destination and the No. 1 Food City in the U.S.," said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "It would take months to truly show these writers all that Pittsburgh has to offer so we provide a sampling of some of our hundreds of great restaurants. And, we are confident that they will discover what so many other visitors have discovered – that Pittsburgh is one great city."
Among the restaurants that the association expressed an interest in visiting are: The Vandal, Station, Smallman Galley and Monterey Bay Fish Grotto. Attraction visits include The Andy Warhol Museum, Mattress Factory, National Aviary, Carnegie Museums of Art & Natural History, Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, Nationality Rooms and Duquesne Incline. In addition, the group will go on kayak and Segway tours, explore the Strip District on a Burgh, Bits & Bites food tour and learn about Pittsburgh's role in The Whiskey Rebellion at Wigle Whiskey. Hotel Monaco will host the writers during their stay.
"With Pittsburgh voted the No. 1 Food City in the U.S. by Zagat, we're thrilled to visit and find out why national publications are pumped about all the new eateries," says Lisa Richardson, chair, IFWTWA's Conference and Media Trips Committee.
The writers attending represent publications such as The National Herald, LuxeBeat Magazine, Divine Lifestyle, Sherman's Travel and Luxe Adventure Traveler.
IFWTWA is a global network of journalists who cover the hospitality and lifestyle fields. Members write about a broad spectrum of travel destination attractions, which include food and wine, as well as the culture and history.
