VisitPittsburgh Expands Staff

PITTSBURGH - VisitPittsburgh has recently announced that it has made several personnel additions to its staff.

Derek Dawson has joined VisitPittsburgh's convention sales team as the organization's new Sports and Group Tour Sales Manager. In this role, Derek will promote and market the Greater Pittsburgh region as a convention and tradeshow site for sports-related conferences and events. He is also responsible for promoting the Pittsburgh area as an ideal destination for group tours.

In his role, Derek will work closely with a special sports committee, which consists of local hospitality managers, sports-related stakeholders (such as professional sports teams, college athletic personnel, etc.) and local sports promoters. Derek graduated from Penn State University, with a BS in Recreation, Park & Tourism Management.

In addition, Ashley Steckel recently joined VisitPittsburgh as Partnership Development Coordinator. In this role, Ashley is responsible for coordinating VisitPittsburgh partner programs and events, among other duties. Ashley's most recent position was with the Pennsylvania Center for Women & Politics at Chatham University, where she was responsible for all logistical aspects of center events.

Vicki Kelley has recently been promoted to Events Manager for VisitPittsburgh. In her new position, Vicki is responsible for managing VisitPittsburgh's familiarization tours for the Convention Sales Department, as well as coordinating trade shows and assisting with VisitPittsburgh's Annual Meeting and Golf Outing. Vicki joined VisitPittsburgh in January of 1988. Throughout her 23-year tenure, Vicki has demonstrated her dedication, loyalty and commitment to the Convention Sales team.

Also, Becky Kern recently joined VisitPittsburgh as assistant to the vice president, finance & operations. Becky holds a Masters Degree in History from Mississippi College and a BS in English. She is also new to Pittsburgh having relocated from Jackson, Mississippi.

By strategically filling open positions, the personnel additions are helping to restore VisitPittsburgh to its optimum staffing level.
