VisitPITTSBURGH Encourages Support of Local Restaurants This Season

Pittsburghers also urged to support small businesses in additional campaign

PITTSBURGH – VisitPITTSBURGH is once again targeting Pittsburghers this holiday season, but this year the message is to encourage residents to give by taking – give back to Pittsburgh’s excellent local restaurants by ordering takeout.

VisitPITTSBURGH produced a radio ad urging residents to consider takeout for their next meal. This ad amplifies the City of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and other organizations’ messaging of support for local restaurant and beverage businesses that have been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 global pandemic. The spot began running on local radio stations today.

“Right now, Pittsburgh’s restaurants need our help. It’s a matter of survival,” VisitPITTSBURGH President & CEO Jerad Bachar said. “These businesses, along with our excellent breweries, wineries and distilleries, have adapted to necessary, preventative sanctions throughout the year. Though we may not be able to dine inside our favorite restaurants until early next year, we can still enjoy their delectable offerings through takeout. And don’t forget to pick up a gift card for your next visit. Every purchase provides immediate help for these businesses.”

Pittsburgh is known internationally for its innovative and diverse food scene. In the last few years, Pittsburgh has earned multiple distinctions, including:

  • 2019 Top 10 Destination for Foodies (BBC Good Food)
  • 2019 Food City of the Year (Restaurant Hospitality)
  • Top Food City of 2015 (Zagat)

“Some of the most skilled chefs in the world call Pittsburgh ‘home’,” VisitPITTSBURGH Chief Marketing Officer Tom Loftus added. “Our city’s eclectic culinary offerings help us attract visitors globally and give credence to Pittsburgh’s claim as a top leisure destination.

“Pittsburghers always take care of Pittsburghers. So, while we are talking about food, VisitPITTSBURGH also encourages residents to consider donating to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank as well.”

VisitPITTSBURGH also is running social media ads supporting holiday shopping at small businesses. The ads direct followers to a Pittsburgh Holiday Gift Guide, which highlights both in-person and online shopping options and encourages the purchase of museum memberships as gifts.
