VisitPITTSBURGH Elects Six New Board Members

PITTSBURGH – VisitPITTSBURGH announced the election of six new members to its board of directors at its annual meeting held today at Rivers Casino.


“We are pleased to welcome this group of experienced professionals to our VisitPITTSBURGH board of directors,” said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. “These individuals will work with us to enhance our organization of bringing conventions and visitors to Pittsburgh and the region and promoting our great city domestically and internationally."

The new VisitPITTSBURGH board members are:

Cassandra Washington, General Manager, Hampton Inn Pittsburgh University Medical Center

Dana Fruzynski, Esq. is the Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel for the Harris Grill chain of restaurants located in Shadyside, Downtown Pittsburgh and Mt. Washington. Prior to becoming a part of the restaurant scene in 2004, Fruzynski was the Executive Director of the Northside Leadership Conference where she oversaw programs in Housing Development, Business Development, Workforce Development and Corporate Partnerships. She also has spent some time in banking working to fulfill the goals of the Community Reinvestment Act. Fruzynski holds a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Sam DeMarco was first elected to Allegheny County Council, November 2015. He is Chairman of the Appointment Review Committee and sits on the Executive, Budget and Finance, Economic Development and Housing, Public Works and Public Safety committees. As a Sales Executive in the document management industry for more than 29 years at IKON Office Solutions, Xerox and Ricoh, Councilman DeMarco has helped many of this region’s leading universities and Fortune 500 companies improve their business processes and reduce costs through the implementation of technology and best practices. His current role as an Account Manager for Capture Solutions at a leading software company gives him an understanding of the role Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning can play in business and government today. Councilman DeMarco is also very involved in the non-profit community and currently sits on both the Board of Trustees for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, and the Board of Trustees for Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum Trust. He is also an Honorary Board Member of the Tuskegee Airman Memorial of Western Pennsylvania Region, and a member of Amen Corner.

Timothy Hudak, Esq. is the Chief Executive Officer for Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott LLC and has more than 23 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He has negotiated more than 2,000 hotel management and franchise agreements and numerous real estate joint ventures for the acquisition and development of hotels, and hotel secured credit facilities, for more than $5 billion, in addition to hotel real estate acquisitions and divestitures totaling in excess of $10 billion. Prior to joining the firm, Hudak was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Interstate Hotels, where he played a lead role and acted as primary negotiator of the merger for the nation’s two largest independent hotel management companies. Hudak holds a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, a B.A. from Saint Vincent College and is on the Board of Directors of St. Vincent College.

Terry Kalna is in his fourth season as Senior Vice President of Sales and Broadcasting for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Kalna has brought a fresh approach to sales and service that is enabling the Penguins to adapt to an ever-changing marketplace. He oversees partnership sales and activation, ticket sales, premium sales, business analytics and the Penguins’ non-hockey events strategy, in addition to the Penguins Radio Network. He also is the primary contact with AT&T Sportsnet, the Penguins’ local television rights holder. His signature achievements with the Penguins have been a 20-year naming rights deal for PPG Paints Arena, a long-term Season Presenting partnership with UPMC and a unique Golden Ticket partnership where one lucky fan won season tickets for 20 years. The Golden Ticket and Penguins Passport won the NHL’s first-ever Sponsorship Excellence Award in 2018. Kalna graduated from Hobart College with degrees in economics and history, and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Aviary.

Janis Burley Wilson was named President and CEO of the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in 2017, and in her role, she has created numerous engaging programming initiatives, completed a new strategic plan and has set the organization on a path for sustainability and success. Prior to this appointment, Burley Wilson worked for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for fifteen years and was responsible for creating some of its most successful, signature programs such as the Gallery Crawl and JazzLive. One of the few women jazz presenters in the country, Burley Wilson is founder and creator of the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival. She has presented at national conferences about jazz and is considered one of the most prolific jazz programmers on the scene today.

Cassandra Washington has been the General Manager of the Hampton Inn Pittsburgh University Medical Center since 2018. With more than 25 years of hospitality experience, Washington’s career has grown over the years, starting as a PBX operator to now a General Manager. She has worked in the New Jersey and Cleveland markets and has been in the Pittsburgh market for over 10 years. Washington has an impressive revenue management background and a true understanding of the importance of maintaining strong relationships with the local Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureaus.
