PITTSBURGH – At the organization's annual meeting held today at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, VisitPITTSBURGH announced the election of five new directors to its board.
"We are pleased to welcome a diverse group of experienced professionals to our VisitPITTSBURGH board of directors," said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "These individuals will add insight and awareness to and will be able to assist VisitPITTSBURGH in fulfilling our mission of generating conventions, trade show, sports events and leisure travel business for the Pittsburgh region."
The new VisitPITTSBURGH board members are:
Eric J. Dorfman, Ph.D., Director, Carnegie Museum of Natural History
Stuart G. Hoffman, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, The PNC Financial Services Group
Chaz Kellem, Senior Director, Advocacy for Race & Gender Equity, YWCA
Tommy Johnson, Vice President, External Relations, CONSOL Energy, Inc.
Michele Meloy Burchfield, Co-Founder & CEO, Blume Honey Water LLC; Founder & CEO, The MBM Group
Dr. Eric Dorfman, director of Carnegie Museum of Natural History, has a master's degree from San Jose State University working with porpoises in Monterey Bay and a PhD from The University of Sydney, working with wetland birds. He was director of Whanganui Regional Museum in central New Zealand. While there, he was founding chair of Visit Whanganui, the local regional tourism organization, which – during his tenure – saw a three-fold growth in overnights to the region, through a focus on the "Visiting Friends and Relatives" sector.
Stuart G. Hoffman is senior vice president and chief economist for The PNC Financial Services Group, serving as the principal spokesperson on all economic issues for PNC. He joined PNC in 1980 after a six-year tenure with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He became vice president and senior economist for PNC in 1987 and was elected senior vice president and chief economist in 1991. Hoffman has been recognized as one of the most accurate economic and interest rate forecasters in the prestigious Wall Street Journal economic survey covering the 1988 to 2016 period.
Tommy Johnson is vice president, external relations with CONSOL Energy, Inc. He has 12 years of service with the company and also worked at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC. He previously served as a legislative aide to U.S. Senator Rick Santorum. Tommy currently serves as a member of the executive committee of the Board of Directors of the Marcellus Shale Coalition and the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance. Tommy is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pittsburgh and sits on several other boards, including the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, among others.
Chaz Kellem is senior director of race and gender equality at the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh. For nearly 10 years, Kellem worked for the Pittsburgh Pirates as manager of diversity initiatives, where he was responsible for managing the organization's interaction with various minority constituencies before departing to accept his current position at the YWCA. He serves on several non-profit boards including the Hill House Association, CORO Pittsburgh, ACHIEVA and HOPE Network.
Michele Meloy Burchfield has more than 25 years of marketing/sales/sales management experience in the beverage alcohol industry. As founder and CEO of THE MBM Group in 2004, she independently created a beverage industry-focused consulting company. She has prior experience with a Boston-based beer company, where she worked as a brewery representative, regional sales manager, division manager and director of national accounts. Meloy Burchfield is the creator, co-founder and CEO of Pittsburgh-based Blume Honey Water, LLC, local producer of All Natural Honey Water.
