VisitPITTSBURGH announced the recipients of its 2016 Travel & Tourism Partner Awards.
PITTSBURGH – The awards recognize outstanding contributions to the region's convention, sports, travel and tourism industry and were presented today at VisitPITTSBURGH’s Annual Meeting, which took place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
Communications Partner of the Year Award: Recognizes partners that aid in VisitPITTSBURGH's efforts to promote the Pittsburgh region through strategic public relations. The Smallman Galley received this award for creating a cutting-edge culinary concept that elevated Pittsburgh's dining scene to a higher level, while simultaneously gaining tremendous national press.
Conventions & Meetings Partner of the Year Award: Recognizes exemplary teamwork, dedication, and enthusiastic energy to ensure the success and lasting, positive impression of Pittsburgh-hosted meetings and conventions. Hannah Lively of the American Postal Workers Union received this award. Hannah worked with the support of APWU locals to bring the APWU Convention to Pittsburgh. She has been a strong advocate for Pittsburgh, championing the city as a desirable meeting destination.
Convention Services Partner of the Year Award: The award recognizes individuals or organizations that have made an outstanding contribution to the success of the region's convention and meetings industry. Sheila Weiner of The Event Group received this award for playing an integral role in making Pittsburgh shine during the prestigious National League of Cities' 2016 City Summit.
Partnership Development Partner of the Year Award: Recognizes leadership, service, and dedication to industry colleagues and advancing VisitPITTSBURGH's efforts to market the Pittsburgh region. Suzanne Krug of the Gateway Clipper Fleet was the recipient of this award. As a dedicated supporter of VisitPITTSBURGH, Suzanne routinely goes above and beyond to champion VisitPITTSBURGH's tourism mission.
SportsPITTSBURGH Partner of the Year Award: Recognizes exemplary teamwork, dedication and enthusiastic energy to ensure the success and lasting, positive impression of Pittsburgh-hosted sports events. The Staff of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center received the SportsPITTSBURGH Partner Award thanks to their enthusiastic support and tireless effort in streamlining Hoop Group Pittsburgh Jam Fest from area gymnasiums to one building with 20+ courts, making for an efficient, affordable and successful event.
Tourism Partner of the Year Award: Recognizes outstanding partnership, collaboration and diligent efforts to enhance the richness and quality of life of the Pittsburgh region enjoyed by both residents and visitors. Arthur P. Ziegler Jr., Louise Sturgess and Mary Lu Denny of the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation were the recipients of this award. In recognition of PHLF's 50th anniversary and the organization’s ongoing dedication to historic preservation, they continue to provide world-class tourism products via architectural walking tours and unique events.
