VisitPITTSBURGH Announces 2014 Travel & Tourism Partner Awards

VisitPITTSBURGH announced the recipients of its 2014 Travel & Tourism Partner Awards.

PITTSBURGH - The awards, which recognize outstanding contributions to the region's convention, travel and tourism industry, were presented at VisitPITTSBURGH's Annual Meeting, which took place on Thursday, March 26, at the Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh hotel.

VisitPITTSBURGH presented the Conventions & Meetings Partner of the Year Award to Ron Ashburn of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST). AIST continues to book their convention in Pittsburgh on a three-year rotation. Mr. Ashburn was recognized for his role as a board member for Materials Science & Technology (MS&T), and played an instrumental role in closing the deal to bring the MS&T convention to Pittsburgh in October 2017. This award recognizes exemplary teamwork, dedication and enthusiastic energy to ensure the success and lasting, positive impressions of Pittsburgh-hosted meetings and conventions.

Joyce Lee and Sherris Moreira of Pittsburgh Transportation Group were awarded the Media Partner of the Year Award. Ms. Lee and Ms. Moreira were recognized for their exemplary effort to support transportation and tours for the Travel Media Association of Canada. In addition, "Pittsburgh Tours and More," a division of Pittsburgh Transportation Group, has become a wonderful tourism product and Ms. Moreira and the company have been gracious to host several VisitPITTSBURGH press tours. This award recognizes partners that aid in VisitPITTSBURGH's efforts to promote the Pittsburgh region.

The Partnership Marketing Partner of the Year Award was presented to Brian McCollum of Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. Each year, Mr. McCollum successfully plans and executes two outstanding restaurant weeks that highlight the culinary excellence Pittsburgh has to offer. This award recognizes leadership, service and dedication to industry colleagues and advancing VisitPITTSBURGH's efforts to market the Pittsburgh region.

Apple Box Studios and Mike Wertz were the recipients of the Tourism Partner of the Year Award. Apple Box Studios created the "Barney Brings His Business to Pittsburgh" video in 2013, and the "Mighty Beautiful" video in 2014 for VisitPITTSBURGH. The "Mighty Beautiful" video, which highlighted the richness and quality of life of the Pittsburgh region, went viral. This award recognizes outstanding partnership, collaboration and diligent efforts to enhance the richness and quality of life of the Pittsburgh region enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike.
