VisitPITTSBURGH and Idea Foundry to Teach Pittsburghers a few Mandarin Greetings

In Preparation of First Non-stop Charter Flight from Shanghai, China on Friday

Pittsburgh, PA – On August 3rd more than 300 Chinese visitors will land in Pittsburgh from Shanghai aboard China Eastern Airlines on the first-ever non-stop charter flight from China as part of a Caissa Touristic tour, which is expected will be the first of many more to come. The Pittsburgh International Airport led this effort.

VisitPITTSBURGH with the assistance of the Idea Foundry has produced a short video to “Teach Pittsburghers Mandarin,” in an effort to help Pittsburghers welcome these guests should they meet them during the trip.

“We’re excited by the long-term potential of future charter flights from China and the economic impact it can have on our region, and we wanted to continue to show how welcoming Pittsburgh is to visitors,” said Tom Loftus, chief marketing officer for VisitPITTSBURGH. “So we produced this short, fun video, with the assistance of our partners at the Idea Foundry, to help start the process of learning a few Mandarin greetings even though most Pittsburghers won’t interact with this initial group of visitors.”

The video will be shown across VisitPITTSBURGH’s social media platforms, as well as the social media platforms of its International Marketing Collaborative partners, including the Pittsburgh International Airport, the Idea Foundry, Visit Washington County and the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau.

As the official tourism promotion agency for Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, VisitPITTSBURGH is dedicated to generating conventions, trade show and leisure travel business for the Pittsburgh region.
