David L. Lawrence Convention Center will serve as the event hub and primary competition venue
PITTSBURGH – Officers of VisitPITTSBURGH and its sports development division, SportsPITTSBURGH, today, announced that the Hoop Group Pittsburgh Jam Fest Tournament will return to Pittsburgh from April 22-24. The majority of the tournament will be played on 24 courts set up in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
More than 300 AAU teams (14U-18U), representing the best boys basketball players in the country, will participate in the three-day event. Last year, more than 200 college coaches attended. Former Pittsburgh Jam participants include NBA players Kevin Durant, Karl Anthony-Towns, Kemba Walker, Jared Sullinger and many others. Pittsburgh Jam Fest is an NCAA-sanctioned event, taking place during one of only two evaluation periods.
"We are delighted to, once again, host the Hoop Group Pittsburgh Jam Fest and welcome to our city, many of the elite players in the country," said Jennifer Hawkins, executive director of sports development for VisitPITTSBURGH. "This year with the majority of the games being played on 24 courts in the David L. Lawrence Conference Center, basketball for fans of all ages will have a hard time deciding which games to watch. This event, again, demonstrates how our community and businesses work together to host large events and why Pittsburgh is a major sports destination for both professional and amateur sport events."
"The Pittsburgh Jam Fest is one of the most prominent AAU basketball tournaments in the country," said Dave Fedor, director of Hoop Group Team Tournaments. "For years the tournament has been scattered across the city at a number of different locations. Having one primary location with 24 courts allows us to take the tournament to a new level for players, teams, college coaches and media outlets and, most importantly, the fans."
Hoop Group and VisitPITTSBURGH have an agreement for the tournament to return to Pittsburgh well into the future.
