Pittsburgh’s DLCC Rooftop Terrace Makes Splashy Debut

Renovated Space Provides Pittsburghers and Meeting Attendees Alike with a Dazzling New Way to Enjoy the City’s Outdoor Atmosphere

PITTSBURGH – VisitPITTSBURGH will participate in the long-anticipated return of the celebrated David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLCC) Rooftop Terrace space, newly renovated and open for parties, meetings, celebrations and more.

The completely refurbished space will be officially showcased as it plays hosts to the latest in a series of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s (PDP) ‘Pittsburgh Opens’ events on Thursday, June 16, from 4:30-8 p.m.

This free event marks the return of a dramatic and unique space that has been meticulously renovated over the last two and a half years. The DLCC Rooftop Terrace offers unrivaled riverfront and city views, expansive walkways, curated rooftop gardens and even flexible seating pods. The space can be customized for varying occasions ranging from small, intimate gatherings to large group events, as well as serving as a great capacity builder for large meetings and conventions coming into the DLCC or local events like that of the PDP.

This free event Thursday will welcome Downtown office workers, local residents and visitors to be among the very first to experience the world-class outdoor space while sampling free hors d'oeuvres and desserts from 5-7 p.m. Happy hour prices and free samples of artisan adult beverages will be available from Boyd & Blair, McBride Sister’s Wines and North Country Brewery, which also includes its ‘Rooftop Hops IPA,’ brewed with hops raised in garden beds on the expansive Rooftop Terrace. Access to the unique space was made possible by the Sports & Exhibition Authority, owner of the DLCC.

Senator Wayne D. Fontana, Chairman of the Sports & Exhibition Authority, stated, “We’re excited to unveil our newly renovated Rooftop Terrace to the Pittsburgh community. Hosting ‘Pittsburgh Opens’ is a perfect opportunity to showcase the space, highlight the sustainable features of the rooftop and support the Downtown neighborhood’s rebound by welcoming back the office community.” He added, “It’s a unique venue, and a unique event – it’s a great combination!”

Added Jerad Bachar, President and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH, who will be among those speaking at the event, “We’re thrilled to welcome back this Only In Pittsburgh venue, one that is ideally positioned to showcase the glorious Downtown views and vistas that rival those of any city in the world.” Bachar further explained, “We know the DLCC Rooftop Terrace is a major draw for both meetings and convention groups coming to the city, along with any local individual or group looking for that ‘wow’ factor in planning their event. The backdrop of our city at night is simply breathtaking.”

In addition to showcasing local food purveyors and happy hour beverage vendors, attendees of the free kickoff event will enjoy music and have the opportunity to grab the Downtown Pittsburgh ‘EDGE’ card that provides special offers and discounts to more than 40 Downtown restaurants and retailers.

The Rooftop Terrace features more than 35,000 square feet with the flexibility to design a multitude of custom spaces. Whether an intimate dinner for 50 or a business reception for more than 1,500 guests, the space will transform any event from ordinary to unique, modern and memorable.
