Pittsburgh Among Top Three Places to Visit in 2015

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh has just been named among the top three places in the world to visit in 2015 by Condé Nast Traveler. The ranking is among a long list of accolades Pittsburgh has garnered from influential travel media: Travel Channel named Pittsburgh as one of the "Best All-American Vacations." National Geographic Traveler named Pittsburgh as one of the "Best of the World - Must-See Places." The view from Mount Washington made USA Today's 10 Best List of "America's most stunning views."

The most recent Condé Nast article states: "The furnaces are long gone, but this city's on fire. The Carnegie Museum of Art, The Warhol, Mattress Factory and Wood Street Galleries have been on a curatorial tear in recent years. The restaurant scene is also alight, led by Cure and Bar Marco, but hit the old school Primanti Brothers for the best sandwich of your life."

The buzz about Pittsburgh has been earned by the region's strategic investment in arts, culture and the environment. The city boasts an award-winning, environmentally-smart Gold/Platinum LEED® certified convention center. The building's dynamic architectural design is like no other convention center offering breath-taking views, open terraces and suspended roof structure, situated within Downtown Pittsburgh.

Accommodations and meals in the city have taken an exciting new twist. The hotel community is rapidly expanding with five new hotel openings in 2015 in downtown alone, including Kimpton's Hotel Monaco. An Ace Hotel also is scheduled to open just outside the city. Bon Appétit named Pittsburgh as the next big food city in 2014 as a result of an astonishing number of exciting new restaurants that have opened Downtown and in city neighborhoods.

The arts and culture scene certainly rivals major U.S. cities. The downtown Cultural District includes a safe and walkable 14-block area with nine theaters, as well as several art galleries and a plethora of contemporary restaurants and pubs. With urban kayaking and 24-miles of riverfront trails, amazing outdoor adventure can be found within city limits. And, the music scene, ranging from the renowned Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to Grammy award-winning jazz at Manchester Craftsmen's Guild is world class.

"To be among 15 destinations worldwide selected for this 'Best Of' list is incredibly exciting. Those of us who live here know that the city's amazing amenities combine to create a tremendously desirable place to live and visit," said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH, the official tourism promotion agency for the Pittsburgh region. "For Pittsburgh to be included among the world's most outstanding destinations speaks volumes about the city's journey over the last 30 years," said Davis.

The only other U.S. destination to be featured on this list is Houston, Texas. International locations include Costa Rica, Rwanda, Helsinki, Berlin and New Zealand.
