Welcome to Pittsburgh! What do you want to do first? Not sure yet? Well what about plans for tomorrow? …Well you still have time to decide… Where are you staying? You haven't booked a hotel yet?!?!
The Pittsburgh Public School District is the largest in Allegheny County serving approximately 38,000 pupils throughout Pittsburgh and Mt. Oliver. The facilities include high schools (Grades 9 - 12), alternative programs and special use schools, middle schools (Grades 6 - 8) and elementary schools (Grades K-8 and K-5). Assignments to schools are based on the address of the child's legal residence. Also, the district's Magnet Schools provide students the opportunity through voluntary enrollment to pursue special interests, talents or career goals.
The remaining 42 school districts in Allegheny County are listed at the website of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit 3. The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh also maintains a listing of other districts in surrounding counties. Check out Pittsburgh Magazine's City Guide for additional information.
