Metropolitan Baptist Church

Brief History

Organized in 1860 and incorporated in 1870, this church stands as an example of the early institutional-building talents of North Side blacks. As one of the oldest churches on the North Side, Metropolitan helped to unite the black community and provide leadership. This old community institution was formerly the Green Street Church.
