Respighi wrote, “I wonder why no one has ever thought of making the fountains of Rome ‘sing,’ for they are, after all, the very voice of the city.” Beloved Italian conductor and newly appointed music director of the National Symphony Orchestra, Gianandrea Noseda returns to conduct Respighi’s wonderful symphonic poem, The Fountains of Rome, the first in his “Roman trilogy”; each of the four movements depicting one of Rome’s fountains at different times of the day. Come experience the Pittsburgh Symphony create musical paintings of the fountains with their pastoral landscapes, joyous calls and triumphant tones of nature. Berlioz's Roman Carnival opens the program. Principal oboe Cynthia Koledo DeAlmeida performs Mozart's charming Concerto for Oboe in C Major, a lively showcase for the orchestra's talented principal oboe.
