Get Outdoors this Fall

with UPMC Health Plan

It's that time of year again – time to enjoy breathing in the crisp fall air, watching the leaves change to dull yellows and bright reds, and endless fun outdoor activities! Pittsburgh is the perfect place for staying fit outside, especially as the intense summer heat leaves us. Whether you're sticking to local parks or taking a weekend trip to enjoy all western Pennsylvania has to offer, there's a lot to do!

Taking a few hours out of the day to go for a hike with family, friends, or even your pets is a great way to get your heart pumping in the fall! There are hiking trails right here in Pittsburgh at Riverview Park, Frick Park, North Park, and plenty of other parks. If you’re looking for more of a road-trip adventure, check out places like McConnells Mill State Park, Ohiopyle State Park, and Baker Trail.

Pittsburgh has scenery to enjoy that makes running even more enjoyable. Whether you're a newbie or an experienced runner training for a race, there are countless places to run in the area. If you’re interested in running a race, a few to check out are the ZooZilla 5K Run/Walk, and The Ugly Sweater Run.

Taking a break to go outside and take a walk around the neighborhood will clear your head and give you the chance to squeeze some exercise into your busy day. Pittsburgh also has walking trails in the area if you want to escape for a longer amount of time.

Workouts during TV

Fall means the World Series, the peak of football season, and the beginnings of hockey and basketball season. If you’re one of the many sports crazed Pittsburghers, you'll be spending a lot of time watching TV to catch the latest plays around this time of year. There’s no need to miss your workouts to catch the next game – there's an easy fix! Try circuit workouts during commercial breaks to make them fly by and seem a little more bearable.
