Many of our local transportation companies have made updates to their offerings and health and safety protocols. Below is a brief update. Visitors are encouraged to visit the specific company’s website for complete health and safety updates.
The Port Authority of Allegheny County encourages riders to wear masks or face coverings when riding a transit vehicle. Additionally, the number of passengers who can be on a vehicle at one time has been reduced. Drivers will pass up stops when their vehicle reaches the limit until other passengers on the vehicle disembark.
Uber requires face covers or masks for all riders and drivers. Front-seat passengers are no longer permitted, meaning every ride with Uber will have one less passenger seat available. Additionally, drivers are being provided with disinfectant, with priority distribution to drivers in cities with the greatest need.
Lyft also requires riders to wear a cloth face covering. Riders are encouraged to keep their car windows open and to sit in the back seat.
zTrip have updated training materials to drivers and other employees highlighting CDC guidelines for controlling the spread of viruses, as well as enacted new emergency standards for vehicle cleanliness and disinfection protocols during daily and weekly upkeep. Drivers are required to wear masks, and there is an increase in frequency of vehicle inspections.
Coach USA and megabus.com passengers are required to wear a facial covering in situations where social distancing is not possible. This includes while waiting in line, during the boarding process, when moving around on the bus and when getting off the bus. Passengers are encouraged to wear a mask throughout the duration of the trip. Additionally, the number of seats available on double-deck vehicles has been reduced.
Corporate Express Cab requests all drivers and passengers wear a cloth face covering. Drivers are to avoid providing pooled rides or picking up multiple passengers who would not otherwise be riding together on the same route. Additionally, passengers must sit in the back seat. When possible, passengers are asked to handle their own personal bags and belongings during pick-up and drop-off; disposable gloves can be used if a passenger needs help loading or unloading.
