Wayman Chapel

Brief History

Founded in 1837 as an outgrowth of St. John AME in Bridgewater, the site was the gift of a prominent New Brighton industrialist who was a Quaker and abolitionist that assisted runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad. The original building built on Third Avenue was used until 1878. The current church building was erected in 1894.
