Thursday Night Jazz: Blues Machine Trio Reimagines Jazz Standards
For the first time ever as an official Trio, City of Asylum welcomes jazz musicians Mark Micchelli, Eli Namay, and Hugo Cruz, also known as The Blues Machine Trio. The group’s name comes from their main inspirations: the blues tradition and industrialization. Playing to their strengths (and playing with tradition) they focus on putting their own spin on classic jazz standards, treating each standard as a compositional and improvisational challenge. Each composers themselves, the members of Blues Machine look at well known and loved tunes in the jazz canon and ask themselves: how can this be reimagined? How can we make it our own?
