Get your engines started! With two full weekends of vintage racing and events, it's go time!
From July 7-16, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP), a charity-driven event, will be racing through Pittsburgh. The 10-day event was formerly a one-day race in 1983, but has since grown to six venues and two counties.
Festivities range from black tie galas to picture-perfect car shows at unique venues. Check out our list of the top five things to not miss at this year’s PVGP.
“Passport to Elegance” Jet Center Party
This year’s main event is the Passport to Elegance Jet Center Party on July 13. Taking place at the Voyager Jet Center at the award-winning Allegheny County Airport, this exclusive event will feature historic cars and planes, international cuisine and live music.
PVGP Historics at Pitt Race
Need for speed? Look no further than the PVGP Historics at Pitt Race, July 6-9! Take a visit to the Pittsburgh International Race Complex and watch Mustangs, Corvettes and Jaguars take racing to the next level. You can join in on all the Pitt Race action by entering to race or attending the driver’s school. Complete the driver’s school test, track test and complete the PVGP Historic Races during the weekend without an accident to receive a Vintage Motorsports Council Competition License!
50th Anniversary of the Camaro
With the treasured Camaro as the Marque of the Year for 2017, the car will be celebrated for its 50 years of iconic and beloved history. Touted as a “reflection of times” by Tom Peters of Chevrolet Performance Cars, the Camaro has embodied influences from multiple generations and has implemented technology through the years.
Tune-Up Party at Atria’s
The 12th annual Tune-Up will take place at Atria’s at PNC Park and along the Roberto Clemente Bridge. More than 150 display and race cars will be lined up along the bridge creating a picture-perfect photo opportunity. With the Pittsburgh skyline in the background and a wonderful night on the town, vintage car edition, this will be one PVGP event for the ages.
Schenley Park Race Weekend
Schenley Park is the host of our nation’s largest vintage race and the only one on city streets! Admission is free for spectators during Schenley Park Race Weekend, July 15 and 16, creating a fun and educational experience for all. In addition to the races, the weekend includes an international car show, MINI Track Rides, the Italian Cortile, food tents and more.
Since 1983, contributions from volunteers and sponsors, has raised $4.75 million for two local charities, the Allegheny Valley School and the Autism Society of Pittsburgh – benefitting residential care, treatment and support to individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities. Last year, the PVGP raised a record $405,500 while continuing to host a world-class racing event.
