Pittsburgh Hockey Season is Almost Here!

"It's a hockey night in Pittsburgh!" will soon be proclaimed by long-time Pittsburgh Penguins announcer, Mike Lange, and fans of the Stanley Cup Champion Pens know that means it's time for the season to begin.

The 2016-2017 season marks the first name change for the arena in which the Penguins play. Formerly known as Consol Energy Center,  it is now the PPG Paints Arena. On October 5, 2016 PPG acquired the naming rights for Pittsburgh’s multipurpose arena.PPG also became the official paint supplier of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

2016-17 marks the 50th anniversary season for the Penguins, who were introduced to the NHL in 1967. Lots of cool events are planned, and you won't want to miss out.

The celebration starts with the Penguins 50th Anniversary Fan Fest on October 9 at PPG Paints Arena with appearances by players, coaches and alumni, as well as activities for all ages.

The season begins with a three-game home stand. The opener on October 13 features an on-ice ceremony, pre-game tribute video and the raising of the team's fourth Stanley Cup Championship banner. The Pens will take the ice against the Washington Capitals, who they beat in the second round of the 2016 playoffs. They then face the San Jose Sharks on October 20 for a rematch of the Stanley Cup Finals, won by the Penguins in six games.

The Pens host their cross-state rivals - the Philadelphia Flyers - on February 25 in an outdoor game at Heinz Field as part of the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. The intensity between these two teams promises to make this the hot hockey ticket for 2017.
