Fun Fall Fitness!

While the leaves may be starting to change and the air might be getting crisper, Pittsburgh's schedule is still packed with events to satisfy every fitness adventurer. September will feature many annual Pittsburgh-based fitness events and several national events that draw crowds from all over!

Fitness Events in September

Whether you're a serious fitness addict or a casual runner looking for fun, you'll find your perfect fit in Pittsburgh this September!

Of course, one of the most anticipated Pittsburgh races is the annual Richard S. Caliguri City of Pittsburgh Great Race on September 27 with the kid friendly 20th Dollar Bank Junior Great Race on September, 19. The Pittsburgh Great Race features two options: a 5K Run & Fitness Walk or the 10K Run. The 5K will depart from the corner of Fifth Ave and Atwood street in Oakland, while the 10K will start at Frick Park with both races concluding at Point State Park downtown. The Junior Great Race features a Family Fun Run, Tot Trot, and Diaper Dash with mascots, medals, prizes, treats and more following the races! Additionally, the race hosts the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Great Race Expo September 25 - September 26 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, where the public can sample products, take health screenings, participate in demonstrations, and shop for discounted sporting goods.

Get ready to hit the streets running with the "Happiest 5K on the Planet", The Color Run! The Color Run will present the new Shine Tour on September 19 on Pittsburgh's North Shore. This untimed 5K calls to runners looking to have a good time and get colorful as participants get drenched in different colors at each kilometer! After you get covered in your favorite colors, enjoy a post-race festival with dancing, music, and even more massive color throws!

For those looking for a very serious challenge, the Second Annual Gladiator Rock'n Run returns to Pittsburgh on September 26 at the Steel City Raceway. Presented by Dan Clark, aka Nitro of the American Gladiators, participants will battle 17 obstacles that include: mud, fire, ice, walls, a 120 foot water slide, and more. Celebrate your success at the finish line where there will be beer, food, and music.

Bike to the Ballgame

Cyclists and Pirates fans will rejoice over Bike PGH's Bike to the Ballgame on September 15! With your ticket purchase, riders will be able to meet-up for a pre-game Business Happy Hour. Park your bike with the bike valet on Federal Street then watch the Pirates take on the Cubs at PNC Park.

For those looking to find their inner peace, Pittsburgh features unique yoga events including: Yoga in the Square and Yoga in the Gallery. Yoga in the Square, which takes place in Market Square each Sunday, will conclude the summer session on September 27. But yoga fans don't lose your Zen! Yoga in the Gallery will take place on September 26, October 3, October 10, and October 17 in the Wood Street Galleries! Immerse yourself in art while you perfect your form with these donation based classes presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

Yoga in the Square

Looking ahead: The annual South Side StepTrek will take place on October 3. With South Side holding the prize for greatest concentration of public stairs in Pittsburgh, trekkers will be treated to scenic views and history throughout their journey up and down the steps! Bring the whole family as you make the event your own! Choose whether the trek will be leisurely or a challenge to your fitness!
