VisitPITTSBURGH Releases the 2014 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH – What would you include in your guide to Pittsburgh? Come and see how VisitPITTSBURGH is promoting the greatest assets of our City, and learn what is new, hot and interesting to travelers. It's mighty. It's beautiful. It's the 2014 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh! And, it's hot off the press!
In addition to being used as a primary planning guide for tourists, the Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh is one of the tools used by VisitPITTSBURGH's convention sales team to "sell the city" to meeting planners that are considering booking an event or convention in the city. It's also distributed to travel writers, who are interested in writing stories about Pittsburgh.
Contents of the guide were included based on research about perceptions of Pittsburgh. Visitors feel Pittsburgh has transformed itself into a place that is alive, energetic and progressive, attributes that the guide attempts to convey throughout.
At 112 pages, the visitor's guide is chock full of essential visitor information and looks better than ever. The striking cover photo was shot by Pittsburgh photographer Roy Engelbrecht. It features the sensational Rubber Duck Project, a signature event for Pittsburgh and part of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s International Festival of Firsts. It also showcases Point State Park, and the magnificent fountain reflecting in the river and the powerful Pittsburgh skyline. Engelbrecht captured a moment in time indicative of Pittsburgh's welcoming environment for visitors, a beautiful spot where a million people gathered to welcome the beloved gigantic rubber duck last fall.
"The official guidebook to the city is user-friendly and highlights all the wonderful things to see and do to ensure a great Pittsburgh experience," says Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "Visitors can find extensive details in this one-of-a-kind guide on everything from family-fun, culture and museums, to dining, nightlife, shopping and accommodations. With over 600 detailed and categorized listings, visitors will be able to find everything they are looking for when planning a visit Pittsburgh," said Davis.
And as Pittsburgh is known as a city of many neighborhoods – 90, in fact – the official guidebook also showcases the many go-to neighborhoods that visitors want to experience within the city. Research conducted by VisitPITTSBURGH uncovered visitors' specific interest in Pittsburgh neighborhoods along with their perceptions that a unique and authentic Pittsburgh could be found there. Those profiled include South Side, Strip District, Lawrenceville, Shadyside, Sewickley, East Liberty, Mt. Washington, Oakland, Monroeville and the North Shore.
Local design firm ocreations, LLC., designed the book, while RR Donnelley Printing handled the printing.
The 2014 Official Visitors Guide to Pittsburgh will make its debut at the "OVG Launch Party" being held at America's Best Ballpark, PNC Park, today, Feb. 11. About 100 people are registered to attend the event sponsored by American Natural and PNC Park. Guests will enjoy cocktails, appetizers and live entertainment.
