Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald Receives Inaugural VisitPITTSBURGH Bob Imperata Award
Award named for former VisitPITTSBURGH executive recognizes champions of tourism for Allegheny County
PITTSBURGH - At the 80th VisitPITTSBURGH Annual Meeting held today at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald received the inaugural "VisitPITTSBURGH Bob Imperata Award." The award will be given annually to an individual, group, or organization who displays a passion for Allegheny County, a passion for the travel and tourism industry, and a passion for bringing visitors to the region. It is named for Bob Imperata, who worked for VisitPITTSBURGH for more than 30 years before retiring as Executive Vice President in 2004.
According to VisitPITTSBURGH President and CEO Craig Davis, "We are fortunate to have elected officials who understand the positive impact that travel and tourism has on the economy. Rich has been a champion of promoting our county and region to visitors, businesses, and developers. He is always willing to help sell Allegheny County as a destination for meetings and events."
In creating the award, VisitPITTSBURGH wanted to preserve an important part of its history, added Davis. "Naming the award for Bob Imperata, who is happily retired, has special meaning for our staff members who worked for and learned from him, as well as our many partners who interacted with him through more than three decades. Bob, who was unable to be with us today to present the award to our County Executive, has loved Pittsburgh and Allegheny County for as long as he has lived," he said.
The award was created by Paula Lysy Designs with reclaimed and repurposed materials to recognize and pay tribute to the ongoing transformation of the Greater Pittsburgh region.
VisitPITTSBURGH is the official tourism marketing and promotion agency of the Pittsburgh region. It is dedicated to generating convention, trade show and leisure travel business for the Pittsburgh region.
