Pittsburgh Ready to Shine for Meeting Planners Attending
"Light-Up Night" Familiarization Tour
PITTSBURGH – In an effort to position Pittsburgh in its best positive light – both figuratively and literally – VisitPittsburgh will welcome 17 meeting planners to the city for a familiarization (FAM) tour during Light-Up Night®, Thursday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 17.
"Light-Up Night allows us to showcase our city in all of its splendor," said Craig Davis, VisitPittsburgh president and CEO. "Because the word is out about what a beautiful city Pittsburgh is, we're able to attract a large number of excellent prospective clients for this particular weekend." He noted that the entire Golden Triangle becomes the stage for one of the largest holiday celebrations in the nation.
Providing a meeting planner with the opportunity to experience the city first-hand is critical in the effort to bring conventions to Pittsburgh. Meeting planners are the professionals who begin the decision-making process in determining where associations and companies will hold meetings and conventions. "These FAM tours can result in significant bookings and promise a strong return on investment." As a result of these visits, more than 80 percent of meeting planners book business in Pittsburgh.
Among the organizations attending the Light-Up Night Fam Tour this week are: Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Reserve Officers Association, National Association of State Treasurers, Ultramar Travel Management, National Association of Elementary School Principals, HPN Global and HelmsBriscoe, two leaders in the meetings and conventions industry.
In addition to tours of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and the Light-Up Night Celebration itself, other highlights of the FAM include a visit to The Andy Warhol Museum, a ride on the Duquesne Incline and desert at Bella Vista Ristorante Italiano atop Mt. Washington.
VisitPittsburgh hosts the Light-Up Night FAM tour in conjunction with the local hospitality community. Hotel tours include the Fairmont Hotel Pittsburgh, DoubleTree by Hilton & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown, Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel, Pittsburgh Marriott City Center, Omni William Penn Hotel, Sheraton Station Square Hotel, Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown and Westin Convention Center Hotel.
