Vote for Pittsburgh, one of 17 international destinations, including several countries, to be nominated for prestigious recognition
PITTSBURGH – What does Iceland, Paris, Korea and Pittsburgh have in common? According to Travel + Leisure's editors, they are among 17 locations worldwide that have been nominated as 'Destination of the Year' for 2016. Pittsburgh is one of only four U.S. destinations to receive a nomination. VisitPITTSBURGH, the official tourism promotion agency for the city and county, is encouraging residents, expats and Pittsburgh lovers to vote for the city as the 'Destination of the Year.'
"Pittsburgh has received incredible accolades over the past several years, and this certainly has to be one of the top," said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "To be among 17 destinations worldwide, including our National Parks, Hawaii, Canada, Paris and New Zealand, nominated for the '2016 Destination of the Year' is incredibly exciting. Those of us who live here or have visited know that the city's amazing beauty, attractions, arts and culture, sports and exploding food scene along with our friendly residents combine to create a tremendously desirable place to live and visit," said Davis.
In the article announcing the nominations, Travel + Leisure states: "2016 marks the former steel town's bicentennial; and for 200 years, it's looking vibrantly young. A new Ace Hotel, a buzzed-about food scene and a fiercely supportive small business community are all emblematic of Pittsburgh's revived energy."
Pittsburgh boasts an arts and culture scene that rivals major U.S. cities. With urban kayaking and 24-miles of riverfront trails, amazing outdoor adventure can be found within city limits. Winning sports teams and an astonishing number of exciting new restaurants are opening throughout city neighborhoods and make for a vibrant destination.
Pittsburgh is included among other amazing destinations. The other nominees include: America's National Parks, Canada, Croatia, Hawaii, Iceland, Ischia – Gulf of Naples, Korea, Mallorca, Mexico City, New Zealand, Orlando, Paris, Portugal, Rio, Singapore and Washington, D.C.
