Christina Cassotis Receives VisitPITTSBURGH ?Bob Imperata Passion for Pittsburgh Award
CEO of Allegheny County Airport Authority recognized for driving visitation through new flights
PITTSBURGH – Christina Cassotis, chief executive officer of the Allegheny County Airport Authority – the agency that oversees Pittsburgh International Airport and Allegheny County Airport – received the VisitPITTSBURGH Bob Imperata Passion for Pittsburgh Award at the organization's Annual Meeting held today at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This special award is given annually to an individual, group or organization who displays a passion for Pittsburgh, a passion for the travel and tourism industry, and a passion for bringing visitors to the region. It is named for Bob Imperata, who worked for VisitPITTSBURGH for more than 30 years before retiring as executive vice president in 2004.
"Christina is so deserving of this award. She was the unanimous selection among the nominating committee," said Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH. "At Pittsburgh International, she oversees an airport with more than 8 million passengers annually, and it ended 2016 with its highest traveler volume in eight years. The airport has seen an 80 percent increase in the number of nonstop destinations in the past two years – going from 37 to 68. The airport just completed its third straight year of passenger gains and fourth straight year of decreasing costs to the airlines."
And that turnaround story caught the attention of the industry as Airport Transport World magazine, a respected industry publication, named Pittsburgh International its "2017 Airport of the Year," the first U.S. airport to win.
Davis added, "In addition, the new international flights to Germany and Iceland that Christina worked so hard to attract will open up new opportunities for Pittsburgh tourism. We are fortunate to have someone as hardworking and as devoted as Christina Cassotis championing the Pittsburgh International Airport and this region for us. She is a dynamic and selfless leader who has a tremendous passion for Pittsburgh."
The attractive, modern award was created by Paula Lysy Designs and artfully features the Pittsburgh skyline reflecting in the river as it pays tribute to the ongoing transformation of the Greater Pittsburgh region. ?
