6:30pm - Byham Theatre, Downtown: The 'Come Back' screening of My Tale of Two Cities, local filmmaker Carl Kurlander's story of one of America's great cities reinventing itself for a new age. Join hundreds of local and expatriate Pittsburghers in a sing-along of "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" led by David 'Mr. McFeely' Newell.
As part of the celebration of the city of Pittsburgh's 250th birthday, Pittsburghers everywhere are invited to come home this Thanksgiving weekend for a special red-carpet screening of the film "My Tale of Two Cities" on November 28th at The Byham Theater, Downtown Pittsburgh. In this often funny and sometimes moving "comeback story", St. Elmo's Fire screenwriter (and Steeltown co-founder) Carl Kurlander tells a personal story about the age old question: "Can you go home again?"
To find out how his hometown of Pittsburgh—which built America with its steel, conquered polio, and invented everything from aluminum to the Big Mac—can reinvent itself for a new age, Kurlander tosses a football with Franco Harris and his son Dok on the North Side, goes shopping in Strip District with Teresa Heinz Kerry, and has breakfast at Ritter's diner with Paul O'Neill.
The screening is a benefit for a "Youth and Media" program, which the Steeltown Entertainment Project is doing in association with The Holy Family Institute. Steeltown Entertainment Project is a nonprofit connecting former Pittsburghers in the entertainment business to regional projects. For over one hundred years, Holy Family Institute has been providing a nurturing, loving, structured environment for young people facing challenging family situations, giving them the tools and opportunities they need to lead responsible lives and develop relationships built on faith, hope, and love. Through this "youth and media" program, Steeltown will arrange for film and television professionals to work with the students, staff and alumni at Holy Family to make a promotional film which will convey the remarkable stories of transformation and redemption for which this organization has been a part.
9am - Downtown Pittsburgh: Celebrate the Season Parade.
8pm - Steelers Nation: Raise a glass for the National Salute to Pittsburgh as we wish our great hometown Happy Birthday!
