The non-profit organization promotes, archives and celebrates the Steel Industrial Heritage of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The visitor center is headquartered in the Bost Building, the National Historic Landmark that had been used by union leaders during the 1892 Battle of Homestead: includes steel heritage exhibits and restored rooms. Other attractions include The Historic Pump House, the site of the 1892 Battle of Homestead and trail head for the Great Allegheny Passage; the Carrie Blast Furnaces, the nation's only pre-WWII iron furnace still standing and now open for guided tours and the W.A. Sons Foundry at Rices Landing. The visitor center in the Bost Building is open 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday; closed on federal holidays.
