America's premier zoo dedicated exclusively to birds, the National Aviary is home to more than 600 birds representing 200 species, many of them threatened or endangered in the wild.

Large walk-through exhibits allow for close interactions between visitors and free-flying birds. Daily programs are educational and fun and offer many opportunities to hand-feed and meet species rarely found in zoos. Visitors can watch flamingos frolic; witness massive owls spread their wings; offer nectar treats to a flock of rainbow lorikeets; and talk with a pair of colorful toucans.

Penguin Point, an open-air exhibit that is home to a colony of noisy, playful penguins, affords close-up views of the penguins swimming, diving and basking in the sun, while the new Grasslands exhibit places visitors in a habitat filled with a brilliant array of finches, weavers and other beautiful birds.

The FliteZone Theater offers daily free-flight shows to visitors. Vultures, macaws, eagles and more fly over, land and stroll among seated guests, against a background of music and video. A rooftop Sky Deck allows guests the remarkable experience of watching bird of prey lure-flying demonstrations in the skies above Pittsburgh.

Hours: Daily, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Open New Year's Eve.
