Named for Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright and Pittsburgh native August Wilson, the August Wilson Center for African American Culture engages regional and national audiences in its mission of preserving, presenting, interpreting, celebrating and shaping the art, culture and history of African Americans in western Pennsylvania and people of African descent throughout the world. 

Located at 980 Liberty Avenue in the city's Cultural District, the multidisciplinary August Wilson Center is reflective of all aspects of African American culture. The Center's striking, state-of-the-art, green building houses large and small exhibition galleries, a mid-sized theater for performances in all disciplines, an education center, a gift shop, and multipurpose spaces for community programs and events. It is a spectacular place to experience theater, dance, music, history, film, literature, visual art, interactive education and entertainment, all under one roof.

The newly opened August Wilson Center also provides a sophisticated, yet functional, setting whether you are planning a large corporate event or an intimate social gathering. This world-class cultural center (fully accessible for individuals with disabilities) has a space for any occasion, including community events, business and staff meetings, workshops, seminars, weddings, receptions, parties, theatrical events, musical performances, family affairs and more.
