The prestigious event is one of five majors on the PGA's Champions Tour and carries a $2.7 purse. It comes to town June 26 to July 1 and puts Fox Chapel on a national stage. Broadcast in 141 countries, the competition includes 81 of the world's toughest players over the age of 50, among them defending Champion Fred Couples who defeated John Cook in a sudden-death playoff last August at Westchester Country Club.
The Senior Players Tour marks the Champions Tour's first visit to western Pennsylvania since 2005, when the Senior PGA Championship was held in Ligonier. It is the first tour stop in the city since the 1998 Pittsburgh Senior Classic.
