The 2012 Search for Monongy is a mass participation swim event with races for adults of all ages and abilities. The event is being held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on the Allegheny River from Heinz Field Quay up the River to the Roberto Clemente (6th Street Bridge) and back to the Heinz Field Quay, with the cooperation and support of the Pittsburgh Police, Pittsburgh River Rescue, Pittsburgh EMS, Sports & Entertainment Authority, and the US Coast Guard. This event includes the following races: • A 2.4-mile individual race with/without wet suits • A 1.2-mile individual race with/without wet suits • A 1.2-mile White Knuckle race, where participants can use an assortment of floatation aids The 1.2 & 2.4 mile swims without wet-suits, offers Great Lakes Swim Series Points. All races will finish at the Heinz Field Quay, but will start at the different times depending upon the distances of the races. The start area for the swims will be at the Heinz Filed Quay and the course will make its way cross current upstream 592 yards, turn then continue cross current upstream 592 yards, then turn and continue downstream 926 yards to the start. One lap will be 1.2 miles, 2 laps will be 2.4 miles. There will be safety kayaks positioned throughout the course equipped with marine radios. They will assist swimmers as requested.
