PURPOSE: Leadership Development Initiative XIX (a program of Leadership Pittsburgh, Inc.) is challenged with implementing a Community Impact Project in Upper Lawrenceville which will surprise, provoke and entertain while showcasing the neighborhood in a positive way, for one day. POPUP! CONCEPT: The people of Upper Lawrenceville's past have honored their neighborhood with an inherent love, molding it into what it stands for today. And now, new residents are helping to shape it into a neighborhood that's worth taking a second look at--a neighborhood that's worth loving all over again. We Do, Take Two: An Upper Lawrenceville Love Story invites Upper Lawrenceville residents, their friends and families, along with other Pittsburgh-area lovebirds, to make a commitment to each other, and this vibrant neighborhood, through a mass vow renewal. Long time Upper Lawrenceville dwellers will join couples new to the neighborhood and sweethearts citywide to celebrate the vow renewal. Wedding-day attire, vintage or vogue, is encouraged! Following the nuptials, couples and guests will enjoy live music, fine food and drink donated by Upper Lawrenceville’s many restaurants, and a chance to contribute to and sample from Pittsburgh’s Largest Cookie Table. Family-friendly activities, in conjunction with neighborhood partners, will take place throughout the day and local artists will display their wares. Other events such as a Mass Bouquet Toss, a Pen-Your-Own Love Letter mural (to a current beau, former flame or Larryville, himself!) and a bachelor / bachelorette party through the streets of Lawrenceville to raise awareness of both the neighborhood and the event are in the works!
