The Lawrenceville Gourmet Spaghetti Dinner, founded by the Boys of Lawrenceville, marks its return on Friday, March 2, 2012, at the Teamster Temple in Lawrenceville. This annual fund-raising event will bene?t the Bernard Dog Run, a community initiative to build an off-leash dog park for the residents of Lawrenceville. The dinner will also bene?t the local nonpro?t animal resource center, Animal Friends. The Bernard Dog Run initiative started in 2008 with the sole mission of establishing a community off-leash dog park that is well-maintained, safe and enjoyable for the dogs and dog owners of Pittsburgh?s Lawrenceville neighborhood. Supported by Lawrenceville United and the City of Pittsburgh, the ?nal steps toward opening the gates include raising funds to cover construction and maintenance costs. The initiative was named in honor of the late Jay Bernard--a Lawrenceville resident, entrepreneur and abandoned dog advocate. Mr. Bernard pioneered neighborhood involvement in Lawrenceville, serving as a catalyst for community activities including Art All Night, the Joy of Cookies Tour and the Lawrenceville House Tour. He founded The Boys of Lawrenceville and created its Gourmet Spaghetti Dinner fund-raiser in 2004 to bene?t local families and organizations. This year?s dinner will be held at the Teamster Temple, 4701 Butler Street, from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and the evening will include entertainment, raf?es and Italian music. Advanced tickets are available at Gallery on 43rd Street, Lawrenceville United and online for $11 per person. Tickets bought at the door will be $13 per person, and children under the age of 10 eat free. Volunteers and donations are also needed to help support the revival of this annual spaghetti dinner fund-raiser.
