An exhibition of four, original, interactive artworks that are “tough” enough to withstand kid handling. Play with a giant kaleidoscope, activate a sculpture with your voice and more! This exhibit is supported by a grant from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Sciences.

Family friendly event featuring Rusted Root and local opening acts. The Allegheny County Music Festival is an annual benefit concert for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund, which provides life-enriching items and opportunities for children served through DHS and Juvenile probation. A $20 per car donation is requested.

Two plays by Brian Friel, inspired by Anton Chekhov! In "The Yalta Game" (inspired by "Lady with the Lapdog"), two strangers almost manage to convince one another that disappointments are 'merely the postponement of happiness to come...' "Afterplay" features Uncle Vanya's niece Sonya, now in her forties and the only customer in a run-down cafe in 1920's Moscow...until the arrival of the Three Sisters' brother Andrei.

"Three Sisters" poignantly conveys the lives, struggles, loves and secret desires of sisters Masha, Olga and Irina and their somehwat ineffectual brother Andrei. Set in a mythological provencial town in late 19th century Russia, we see their lives unfold before our eyes.

Want to try your hand at the guitar? Empire Music will offer small-group sessions on the Sonic Acoustic Stage. Try out a guitar or just listen in on some informal instruction. At the end of the lesson time, each person will have the chance to play with the instructor and a drummer! With price of admission to the Science Center.

Impressionism in a New Light: From Monet to Stieglitz, on view at Carnegie Museum of Art May 12–August 26, 2012, presents a robust picture of what Impressionism means in art, displaying paintings, drawings, prints, and pastels by major artists alongside works by many of the most famous Pictorialist photographers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Acoustic guitar aficionados are in for a treat during a presentation by Dick Boak, archivist for Martin Guitar, that will showcase one of America's favorite instruments and feature musical vignettes by virtuoso guitarist Craig Thatcher. This presentation offers an interactive history of the 180-year-old Martin Guitar Company and highlights the evolution of Martin acoustic guitars. Plus, explore how specific guitar shapes, sizes and tonewoods lend themselves to particular musical genres.
